On 22 April the whole world celebrated #EarthDay and NTT wanted to pay tribute to our planet, which was born 4.5 billion years ago and is our home.

The morning of 20 April was a different kind of morning at the Novus building. A day in which families could enjoy, together with the little ones, different activities focused on raising awareness about the importance of taking care of our planet. These were the activities that took place:

Workshops for environmental protection: sustainability and technology.

Composed of three workshops for children from 7 to 14 years old, derived from our CLOQQ (Create What You Want) Programme and our alliance with United Way, which focus on environmental protection while promoting NTT DATA's commitment to digital training and education as a tool for economic, social and environmental sustainability.

Workshop 1: ‘Getting to know the Sustainable Development Goals’.

The attendees learned about the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that comprise it. They tested their knowledge of sustainability, created a fanzine by reusing office material and explored together the current state of issues related to environmental pollution, the fight against climate change or the loss of biodiversity in the world through revealing data.

Workshop 2: ‘The garden and your city with scratch. Getting to know George W. Carver'.

George Washington Carver was a slave boy who became one of the best agricultural scientists in the United States. In 1941 the famous ‘Time’ magazine called him the ‘Black Leonardo’ because he studied many subjects: botany, mycology, pedagogy. This workshop was used to travel with Carver to the Iberian Peninsula to study crops, helping the participants to create a computer scratch program that identified areas of land suitable or unsuitable for cultivation.

Workshop 3: ‘Gymkhana Planet vs. Platics: Waste management’.

The participants learned about the degradation time of waste and the correct management of waste through games and participatory dynamics. In addition, they learnt which of our daily habits can help us to be more sustainable with our environment.

    1st Earth Day Drawing Competition

Throughout the morning, the youngest members of the family were able to express on paper all their admiration and concern for the planet by taking part in a drawing competition that rewarded creativity in the use of motifs related to sustainability.

Teaming Space: Do you know the largest platform for micro-donations in Spain and its impact on environmental projects?

At the stand of Teaming, an organisation of which we are a founding patron and reference partner, participants were able to find out how to contribute to different charitable causes for less than the cost of a coffee.

    Collection of unused mobile phones

Did you know that your Nokia 3310 can still save lives? Well, now it is Fundación Llamada Solidaria who needs it. Volunteers were able to deposit their old phones, tablets or e-books in the special containers set up. In this way, it can be given a second life by helping others in their fight against rare diseases.

This initiative was the kick-off of NTT's Earth Week, a call-to-action week that this year focuses on the issue of plastic waste with the slogan ‘Planet vs. Plastics’, in which the Group's companies will participate with physical and virtual, local, regional and global activities to create a common awareness of the problems of overpopulation, pollution, biodiversity conservation, global warming and other environmental concerns, which put the health of our planet at risk.
